When a site like this is new and begins to get some participation sometimes you can start to figure out changes to do to make things easier or better.

Jordan had an idea today that I tend to agree with but I want your opinion.

It might be easier to merely have one discussion forum for all topics instead of separate discussion forums for cigars, whiskey, and beer. That way all discussions, trades, for sale, etc. would be in one place. We would of course still have separate forums for the cigars, whiskey, and beer databases.

    What do you guys think?

    Hey Eric-

I can definitely see both sides of this one. I tend to like having the separation between the different discussion areas. A middle ground might be to have both a general discussion area and specific discussion areas in each section. That way if its specific to one topic you have a place for it but if its more general in nature then it wouldn't clog up the more specific areas. However, either way you go with it I don't see it having a negative impact on my usage.

    Long ashes,

I get it..... Specific "Databases" have their own section but the General discussions are intermingled into one.

Like last night- I posted my SOTD in the cigar thread then had to go to the beer thread to post my drink. Why not just have these topics in a general area????? Because you just made yourself unique from every other forum I've been to. I dig this set up. I don't drink.... Therefor I spend my time in the cigar section reading up on only the things that interest me. Someone may join that drinks but doesn't smoke (can't be trusted) and most likely would not be very impressed with having to scroll through a bunch of ash and bands to get to a good beer post.

I say keep it like it is. It's different. It's informative. And gosh darn it, People like it.

Initially, after reading your question last night I thought having one general discussion area would be handier and may facilitate more dialogue... But Jae brings up a valid point... It is unique. That said it simply maybe too early to know. I'd run with it for a month and re-evaluate.

Yeah... great points have been made. I wonder if a good solution would be to add a discussion forum outside of Cigars, Beer, and Whiskey for all the stuff that doesn't fit in those categories.

I try to live by keep it simple... I'm not sure I'd go that route. To many areas might dilute interaction... I'm actually leaning more towards the one big discussion area the more I reflect on this. Though I'm finding I use the recent post screen to stay on top of what I'm following.

The Recent Post screen is "da bomb". In all the years I have been running forums that is typically the page that eventually becomes the hangout. It's also the best page to go to on the app.

I like 'em separate....dont have to look through a buch of cigar posts if I'm looking for beer stuff and vice versa....

His input might've sucked, but I think Jae's right. Keeping the three main topics separate is good. I agree that's single "Off-Topic" section might be usable. Or maybe rename the welcome center and let it be the free for all.

I have solved the problem. If you see it.... you will know what I'm talking about. If you don't see it... be patient and keep making quality posts. :)
